Narcolepsy is a chronic and potentially debilitating sleep disorder that can cause hallucinations, daytime sleepiness and cataplexy, a form of muscle weakness precipitated by strong emotion, the article states. Based on such health concerns, the European Medicines Agency recommended restricting the use of Pandemrix in people under 20 years old in Europe, according to Bloomberg on Feb. 26.
As a result, Reuters reported that the even though the FDA voted to recommend approving a nearly identical vaccine based on earlier studies, one member of the 14-member FDA advisory panel believes the panel should reconvene to review the drug again based on the new data.
