According to news reports, a 66-year-old woman was ejected from her car after her vehicle rolled over in Exeter, New Hampshire. Ruth Charland lost control of her car after swerving to avoid another vehicle that came into her lane while on Route 101, reported WMUR. Police speculate that speed might have been a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
Charland was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle had two children in her car at the time of the incident. Passengers of the second car suffered less serious injuries, according to WMUR.
Speeding is one of the top causes of vehicular accidents, said John Tenn, a New Hampshire Injury attorney. My experience has taught me that the faster a car is going, the greater the risk of serious injury or death to those involved in the crash.
The National Safety Commission reports that speeding almost triples the odds of being involved in an accident. According to data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 33,000 traffic fatalities in the United States in 2009. Of that number, more than 10,000 deaths resulted from crashes in which speeding was a factor.
The impacts suffered by someone involved in a high-speed accident can be tremendous, said Tenn. People hurt in motorcycle or car accidents may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, damage to their vehicles, and pain and suffering, depending upon their specific situation.
